The Australian Indigenous Governance Institute will co-convene the inaugural International Indigenous Governance Conference  ‘Self-determination through Self-governance’ with Reconciliation Australia in Brisbane from 2nd to 3rd December 2020.   

Indigenous Governance Development Forum: Mapping Current and Future Research and Resource Needs

An Indigenous Governance Forum was hosted by the Australian Indigenous Governance Institute (AIGI) and the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) on 29th – 30th July 2014.

The Indigenous Governance Program, in partnership with the BHP Foundation and the Australian Indigenous Governance Institute (AIGI), aims to progress reconciliation through recognising, supporting and celebrating strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander governance and self-determination.

The Indigenous Governance Toolkit is an online resource developed for Indigenous nations, communities, individuals and organisations searching for information to build their governance.

It covers all the basics – your rules, values, culture, membership, leadership, and decision making – and has many examples of ideas that work from other groups, tools to help you get started, and useful guidance to sustain your efforts.

I found each workshop component piqued discussion around developing and embedding ways of intercultural representation and governance within government frameworks. It should be mandatory training for anyone working for the Qld Government on the current agenda to ‘reframe the relationship’ with our First Nations’ peoples. The masterclass was timely and relevant to a number of Qld government projects that are currently in the review and or development phase. I found each workshop component piqued discussion around developing and embedding ways of intercultural representation and governance within government frameworks.
