On 13 February 2013, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People’s Recognition Bill 2012 passed unanimously through the House of Representatives. The bill then passed through the Senate in March.

Constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is an important step towards reconciliation.
