What we do with your donation

When you donate to AIGI, you are contributing to our strengths-based, developmental approach to governance building. Our approach focuses and builds on the strengths of the individual, organisation, community or nation – including relationships, cultural values, knowledge and skills.

Effective Indigenous governance is a critical mechanism in advancing the self-determination and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples in Australia. This has never been more important as we address the priorities of Closing the Gap, the realisation of a Treaty, truth-telling and the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum.

Effective Indigenous governance can lead to better outcomes for Indigenous people – including their cultural and economic identity, health and wellbeing, and political effectiveness – all core to what communities seek for themselves and others.

Leaders in the Indigenous governance space advocated for years for the need for AIGI – a centre of excellence on Indigenous governance. That need has not changed. It is just as important now as it ever was.

AIGI is more important now than it was 10 years ago. We now have 30 years of research that says economic and social change only works when it is led by Aboriginal people.

We don't have a generation to wait; the opportunity costs are too great. We need AIGI to help us here and now.

AIGI fills a niche that no other organisation currently fills in terms of providing customised research, training and development materials for Aboriginal organisations.
